Transporter und Ergothionein
The overall goal of these projects is to identify and develop new targets among proteins responsible for the transport of drugs into the cell. Some of these transporter proteins are still unknown or poorly defined concerning their substrate specificity. Without knowledge of the physiological substrates, we cannot properly understand the role of a transporter. Therefore, in recent years we have been working intensively on a strategy for comprehensive and unbiased identification of substrates for so-called "orphan" transporters based on effective analysis of cell lysate by HPLC combined with mass spectrometry.
Main research topics
- Elucidation of the function of membrane-bound transporter proteins in humans
- Elucidation of the function of ergothioneine; reactive oxygen molecules
- Metabolomics = identification and quantification of low molecular weight metabolites.
